This recipe is a must-try for anyone that wants a healthy homemade snack for horse and rider.

Ingredients:

  • 40g Rolled quick oats (and we like puffed amaranth also)
  • 15g Linseed, Sunflower, and Almond Meal (LSA)
  • 15g Dates and Goji berries
  • 15g Grated coconut
  • 5g (1tbs) Faba bean protein powder
  • 1tbs date syrup
  • 1tbs maple syrup or honey
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of cardamom
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1tbs oil

How to Make Azadi Horse & Rider Bites:

1. Combine Oats and LSA Meal: Start by weighing out the rolled oats and LSA meal. Combine these two ingredients in a mixing bowl.

2. Prepare the Fruit Mixture: Weigh out the goji berries, dates, and grated coconut. Use a blender to grind them into a fine mixture. Combine this fruit mixture with the oats and LSA meal in the mixing bowl.

3. Add Protein and Spices: Now, it’s time to boost the nutritional value of your bites. Add the faba bean protein powder, turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt to the mixture. These ingredients will give your bites a delightful flavor and a protein-packed punch.

5. Sweeten the Deal: Return the mixture to the mixing bowl and add date syrup and either maple syrup or honey. Blend everything together until it forms a coarse, tacky dough. If it’s not sticking together, gradually add small amounts of water (about 1 tablespoon at a time) until you achieve the desired consistency.

6. Dehydrate or Bake: Once your mixture is ready, place it into a food dehydrator or your oven set to the lowest temperature. Allow it to dry until it reaches a firm consistency that you are satisfied with. This step can take a couple of hours, so be patient!

7. Cut and Serve: After your Azadi Horse & Rider Bites have reached the desired consistency, remove them from the dehydrator or oven. Cut them into bars or bite-sized pieces, depending on your preference. Now they’re ready to be served!

Pro Tips:

  • Cut them into bites or bars halfway through the drying/baking process.
  • The drier you make the bites, the longer they will last in airtight storage.
  • For extended adventures like the Azadi Far Ride, we recommend vacuum-sealed storage to keep your bites fresh.
