Our documentary ‘Azadi Far Ride to the Murray’ was created to do one thing: champion the critical importance of Australia’s historic stock routes as living cultural heritage. To have our small film, born from a journey on horseback, recognised by esteemed international and national festivals is both humbling and encouraging.
It began with the honour of being named an award winner in the International Equine Adventure category at the Equus Film & Arts Festival in the USA. The moment that connected our Australian story to a global community.
Now, we are profoundly grateful to have received the ‘Best First-Time Filmmaker’ award at Australia’s Simply Shorts Festival. That our work was selected from 150 films across 11 countries is an honour in itself. They specifically praised the film’s “authenticity, clarity of vision, and confident storytelling,” noting how it frames stock routes as “living cultural heritage worth protecting.”
Ultimately, this recognition validates the powerful story of the routes, the landscape, and the legacy we aim to protect. An invitation to keep listening, sharing, and riding for this cause.
But it doesn’t just stop there.

While awards amplify our message screenings drive the real conversation. The film’s real work happens in communities, sparking dialogue about heritage, ecology, and sustainable land use.

This film documented the beginning of a much longer trail for Azadi Far Ride. We are already mapping the next chapters with major expeditions across Queensland’s stock routes planned for 2026 and 2028.
