We want to share an important update regarding our upcoming trek.
After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone the Stockmans Way—the near 1,000km trek planned from Longreach to Eidsvold this year.
This was not an easy call. The Stockmans Way represented a bold vision, and we know many of you were looking forward to following that journey. However, several factors have led us to change course, most notably the ever-rising costs associated with a trek of that scale—particularly fuel and logistics.
Rather than push ahead with a single marathon trek under difficult circumstances, we have decided to shift our focus.
Moving Toward a Sustainable Future for Stock Routes
The Azadi Far Ride Campaign will concentrate on a series of shorter, more targeted micro-expeditions. Each will be designed to highlight a specific value that stock routes bring to the table—values that are often overlooked or underappreciated.
By breaking the journey into smaller pieces, we can tell a richer, more detailed story about why these routes matter. Achieving a sustainable future for stock routes requires showing their full range of benefits.
We will be exploring:
- Ecological significance – A trek focused on the high environmental value stock routes hold as wildlife corridors and remnant vegetation networks.
- Geotourism potential – A trek showcasing how stock routes can serve as geotrails, offering access to unique landforms and geological features.
- Cultural heritage – A trek dedicated to the deep cultural history embedded in stock routes, from First Nations traditional pathways to pastoral droving history.
- Economic impact – A trek highlighting the real economic benefits stock routes can bring to remote communities through sustainable tourism.
Looking Ahead
We’ve already gotten the ball rolling on some of these projects and we will announce further details in the near future as these projects develop.
